Cat Stevens Children: Meet the Musician's Son and 4 Daughters (2024)

Back in the 70s, Cat Stevens was one of the most popular music acts out of Britain. He dropped best-selling albums such as Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat. He also won numerous industry accolades. Stevens later converted to Islam in 1977 and this impacted every aspect of his life. He officially changed his name to Yufus Islam. He also took a long hiatus from music as he didn’t believe that it was compatible with his new faith.

Many were baffled by Stevens’ decision to take a break from music but he didn’t regret it as it gave him the time and freedom to do several things such as getting married and having children. He also focused on many charitable activities, including his Islamia schools. Stevens made a comeback to music in 2006 and is now enjoying the best of both worlds. He continues to do what he loves best in a manner that suits him. He also revels in the love of his children, including his son that has followed his footsteps into the music industry.

Cat Stevens has been married only once in his life and that is to a lady named Fauzia Mubarak Ali. Their marriage was reportedly an arranged marriage and they wed at the Regent’s Park Mosque in London in 1979. The couple has been together for more than four decades now and they have welcomed a total of six children. This includes four daughters and two sons although one of their sons, unfortunately, died in infancy.

She briefly attended secular schools before her dad was inspired to establish his Islamia Primary School in Brondesbury Park, London in 1983. She, therefore, continued her education at the school, as well as the Islamic secondary school set up by her dad. It is not known if Hasana attended college but her dad has asserted that all of his daughters are well-educated, meaning that she should be too.

Hasana Islam is all grown up now and resides in the United Arab Emirates with her husband. Their marriage is blessed with kids, including a son named Muhammad Sulaiman, who was born in 2010. When it comes to her occupation, Hasana Islam serves as a director in several of the companies founded by her dad. These companies manage his musical catalogs, produce his new music, and are also involved in the production of videos. They are Firecat Music Ltd, YA Records Ltd, Alqmis Ltd, Catalogue Musicals, MoonShadow Productions, CAT Music Ltd, and Mountain of Light Production Ltd.

Hasana Islam also served as a director in her father’s philanthropic vehicle, The Yusuf Islam Foundation. The foundation works to achieve peace through educational, cultural, and charitable projects. They organize a range of activities for community engagements. They have also supported needy people all around the world. She also attended college and is qualified to practice as a solicitor in the United Kingdom. Unlike her older sister who has relocated to the UAE, Asmaa is still primarily based in the United Kingdom where she is carrying on practice as a solicitor. Her famous dad has also included her in the family business structure.

She serves as a director in one of his companies known as Maqamat Ltd. She also served as the chairman of the board of trustees of the Yusuf Islam Foundation. Apart from her father’s foundation, Asmaa also volunteered to serve as a mentor for the Mosaic Network. This is a charity founded by Prince Charles to deliver mentoring programs to secondary and primary school students and prisoners from disadvantaged backgrounds in order to help them realize their potential. Asmaa’s work with the Mosaic Network gave her the chance to meet with important dignitaries such as Prince Charles himself.

In her personal life, Asmaa Islam is married with children. Though there are no specific details as to the name of her husband and kids, it is known that she has at least one daughter. She and her daughter, as well as her mother, Fauzia, were on hand to watch her dad receive an honorary doctorate degree for his humanitarian work from Britain’s University of Exter in 2007.

Cat Stevens’ third child is another daughter named Maymanah Islam. Maymanah was born on the 2nd day of January 1983. She also grew up in London and attended the same school as her older sisters. There is no confirmed information about her attending college. Maymanah Islam is a talented photographer and some of the photos she took of her dad have been used by magazines that interview him. She is also contributing her time and energy to support his charity efforts.

Back in 2013, Maymanah visited Bosnia and Herzegovina on behalf of her father’s charity organization known as Small Kindness. Her father set up Small Kindness in 1999 as a way of bringing back the human touch in charity organizations that have been bogged down by institutionalization, as well as rigid management.

Maymanah Was With Her Dad When He Was Famously Denied Entry Into the U.S. in 2004

Just like her sisters, Maymanah Islam lives the life of a very decent Muslim lady and avoids the spotlight. She does not seem to have any social media accounts as the only mention of her comes on the Yusuf Islam Foundation official Facebook page. Maymanah Islam however found herself in the spotlight back in 2004 when her father was denied entry into the U.S. because his name, Yusuf Islam, was found on a No-Fly list. The U.S. had just suffered the 9/11 attacks a few years back and was quite jittery about terrorism.

They, therefore, set up several procedures, including a no-fly list. People whose names were on the list were deemed to have terrorist links and were forbidden entry into the U.S. In September 2004, Maymanah and her dad were flying from London to Washington when their flight was diverted to Maine. Her father was subsequently detained by the FBI. He denied having any links to terrorists but this fell on deaf ears. He was asked to leave the U.S. while Maymanah was allowed to stay with one of her uncles in the U.S.

The whole saga caused an uproar with the deputy secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain criticizing what had happened as a slap in the face of sanity. On a personal note, it was a very agonizing time for father and daughter who were forcefully separated from each other. Maymanah’s dad later made an official request for his name to be removed from the no-fly list. He was able to enter the U.S. in December 2006.

He attended the Islamia primary school, as well as the Islamic secondary school that was established by his father. Muhammed grew up during the time that his father was taking a break from music. He nevertheless still had several musical influences and fell in love with it. He bought a guitar and began practicing. He also took to writing songs without his father knowing what he was doing.

Muhammad adopted the name, Yoriyos Adamos, to conceal his identity and began dropping his songs via Myspace in the early 2000s. In 2006, he dropped his firstalbum titled, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, through his own record label named Rarechord. The album featured tracks such as Endoscopises, Nomads Dream, Kingdoms Fall, Hurricane John, Run Dry, If All Else Fails, The Pied Piper, and Wounded Knee. The album performed decently and Yoriyos later joined hands with a guitarist named Hallam Kite to found a rock band known as Noxshi around 2008/2009.

The band references the classic sounds of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, and Pink Floyd. They have dropped about two EPs namely Nine Point Circle (2009) and Terra (2009). They also have one full-length album, titled The Way They Lush (2011), and have performed at various venues.

Yoriyos Adamos Also Serves as His Dad’s Manager

Cat Stevens has performed with his son on several occasions. The award-winning singer has even revealed that it was his son that helped him to rediscover his passion for music. According to him, being in close proximity to his son’s guitar tempted him to pick up the instrument and once he did so, it was like a floodgate was opened. He could play and sing some words that he had been writing and this motivated him to rejig his musical career. Cat Stevens dropped his first album in 28 years, An Other Cup, in 2006.

He subsequently went on various tours to promote it and his son was right there with him. Yoriyos acted as an opening act on most legs of his tour, sometimes solo and sometimes together with his band, Aoxshi. Asides from performing on stage with his dad, Yoriyos also serves as one of his dad’s managers. In this position, he helps him to schedule important aspects of his career including interviews and the likes. He has also helped him track down and repurchase some of the guitars that he auctioned.

In his personal life, Yoriyos Adamos is most likely married with children of his own but there is no explicit confirmation of this. He has been pictured at an event with a Lady and it is very likely that she may be his wife.

While growing up, her parents gave her and her siblings the space to explore their characters and individual journeys. They also encouraged them to travel and interact with people. It was indeed a home filled with laughter and open minds and all this inspired Aminah to take an interest in photography at an early age. By the time she was eight, she had inherited a camera from her dad and turned their garage into a little darkroom.

Spurred by her dad and brother’s encouragement, Aminah Yusuf continued teaching herself photography even during her college days. She eventually obtained a degree in footwear design and has since focused on her photography career. Aminah Yusuf now serves as her father and brother’s official photographer. She regularly accompanies her dad on tour and documents every aspect of the whole experience. The resulting pictures not only make it into the archives but have been used by several magazines interviewing her dad such as Rolling Stone etc.

Aminah has revealed that some of her favorite cameras are the Leica M2 and Leica M9. Her favorite photography subjects are people that she has a relationship with and not just famous individuals. The young lady is quite close to her brother, Yoriyos, thanks to the proximity in age. She is also close to her parents and has stated that she is incredibly grateful for them. With regards to her love life, there is no confirmation that Aminah Yusuf is married but it is very much likely that she is not only hitched but has kids as well.
